sexual health

Sexual health is key clinical component of public health – since 2013 local authorities (Councils) are now responsible for the commissioning of sexual health services, HIV prevention and testing whilst specialist treatment and care for HIV remains the responsibility of clinic commissioning groups.

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are currently considering the services offered across our authorities and a draft service specification has been drafted.

With 1in5 adults in a local community sexually active compared to those who smoke or who are obese or have a drug or alcohol problem engaged it’s imperative that these services understand how to ensure access to appropriate prevention resources and strategies as well as providing excellent care and treatment for those diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections including HIV.

Local evidence suggests that our communities as well as BME populations are less likely to attend sexual health screening thus late diagnosis are reported. Gay men and Men who have sex with men continue to be disproportionally affected by HIV.

Your comments will help feedback into the current re-procurement process and what we would like to know is;

What are the barriers to accessing excellent sexual health services thinking prevention, testing and screening and the treatment and care for individuals diagnosed with HIV?
